PHRAG Dusters
Dusters are one use that we developed for the head of the phragmites. Throughout all our trials we have found ourselves not using the heads of the phragmite plant. When the phragmites are fresh and green during the summer here in New Jersey the flower heads are a pretty purple color. Once they bloom they tend to turn a yellow kind of color like the one pictured above.
Note: Do not attempt to use a flower head like the one above as a duster...you will regret it!

MISSEd out by a week!
The first week of September the phragmites flower heads were purple and very strong. We simply cut an old phragmite stem and placed a cut flower head within the stem. With that, we created our PHRAG Dusters! However, aside from playing with them during our visit, we didn't take pictures of the original duster and its color. We figured we could do that the following week as we were busy QR Coding the Maze. A week later we came back to work with our new Invasive Art product and ALL of the flower heads released their pollen, changed colors, and lost their strength. We attempted to use as a duster and pollen was flying everywhere. One week too late for this concept! Until next season!
We took this photo a week before we attempted our first duster! This is how the flower head needs to look in order to use it as a duster. We really did miss out by a week!
Walis Tambo
This is a broom made out of phragmites or better known as "Walis Tambo" It is made in the Philippines and used everyday. This was store bought for us as a model by one of our teachers, Mrs. Yabut. As the year goes on we hope to one day make one of these for ourselves!
