The origin of our MAZE!
Our Journey
Before our group was formed the students from Project Reservoir started stomping on the phragmites because they wanted to see if stomping the Phragmites in the fall would slow their growth in the Spring. When we became interns our teachers educated us about phragmites. We researched about phragmites and found out that they give off an acid that prevents animals and plants to grow in the area. Instead of just destroying the phragmites we decided to find uses for them. We decided to create a phragmite maze starting from the area that the former members "stomped." By doing this, we opened up a new area of the Reservoir for people to explore. In the past, this section of the Reservoir was impossible to explore because of the dense population of phragmites. In October, we intend to create a Fall festival at the Reservoir with the phragmite maze as the main attraction. We also created a map and continue to expand our maze each Saturday morning when we explore the site.
